Description

Continuing on with the Silver Seinfeld Chronicles, now we move on to the main star, Jerry Seinfeld, played by… himself.
(For those who are new and wondering why Jerry’s collection is second and not the first, I’m going chronologically by the cast members’ birthdays. And Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ birthday was in JANUARY and Jerry’s is in APRIL. So I HAD to do Elaine first. Not that there’s anything wrong with that!)

Growing up, I’ve never seen anything that had Jerry in it. The only thing was his character in Dreamworks’ Bee Movie… and that was when I was in middle school! I mean, I’ve heard his name before but never actually seen him in anything, not including my first Seinfeld moment from “The Wink”. The first I really saw Jerry “physically”, not including “The Wink” (see Elaine’s picture to get the full run-down), was in the Jimmy Fallon “Who’s on first” recreation skit: www.youtube.com/watch?v=K0Jg7p… & the odd thing was I still didn’t know him! Jimmy Fallon, Billy Crystal and Andy Sandberg I could identify, but with Jerry, I was baffled at why he got a 30-second applause. But after watching Seinfeld, I understand why.

For Jerry’s fictional self, he’s really somethin’. He’s pretty hysterical, be it observational humor or just being funny without even trying. It’s also enjoyable trying to see him not crack up during the take, even though he can come close. His philosophies can actually make sense, even the sex ones. & neat-freak qualities are always fun in characters. What’s odd about him is the actual Seinfeld’s acting, which I know many people have brought up before so I’m not gonna talk too much about that.

Let’s just take the scene where George mistakes an apple for an onion as an example: www.youtube.com/watch?v=yecNfS… at 0:46-0:58, that’s not half-bad, but 0:35-0:40… well, you can tell he’s trying.

For our too-New-York-too-Jewish comedian who turns 60, we have…

1. Him explaining “the Magic Loogie Theory” with Keith Hernandez (The Boyfriend: PART 1)

2. Shaking hands nervously with Keith Hernandez (The Boyfriend)

3. At the confessional with his “anti-dentine” issue (The Yadda-Yadda)

4. “Not that there’s anything wrong with that!” (The Outing)

5. Being called “a very, very bad man” by Babu in his Pakistani resteraunt (The Cafe)

6. His Cape Fear nightmare with his Uncle Leo (The Bookstore)

7. Wearing the puffy shirt (The Puffy Shirt)

8. Escaping with the marble rye from “the old bag” (The Rye)

9. On his date with “Man Hands” (The Bizarro Jerry)

10. And his philosophy of the black-&-white cookie (The Dinner Party)

Moments I wanted to have but couldn’t (because of my limit) include…

Trying to figure out her girlfriend’s name (that happens to rhyme with a part of the female anatomy), his race against Duncan Meyer with the Superman theme, having dinner with Banya and his incident with the moil.

Happy 60th, Jerry Seinfeld & please join me back in July to giddy-up!
